- Budget for moving costs (truck, movers, deposits, first month rent).
- Get quotes from several movers; read reviews.
- Notify current landlord per lease; understand breaking-lease terms.
Address and accounts
- Forward mail (USPS) and update address with bank, employer, IRS, DMV.
- Update billing address for credit cards and subscriptions.
- Transfer or set up utilities at the new place.
After the move
- Update your will and other documents if state or beneficiaries change.
- Register vehicle and driver's license in the new state if required.
