Insurance review checklist

Review your insurance coverage periodically.

What to review

  • Life: enough to replace income or cover debts if someone depends on you.
  • Disability: often overlooked; can replace part of income if you can't work.
  • Auto and home: liability and property limits; deductibles you can afford.
  • Umbrella: consider if you have assets to protect.

When to review

  • After major life changes (marriage, baby, new home, new job).
  • Once a year: compare quotes and check discounts (bundling, good driver, etc.).

Before you buy or renew

  • Shop 2–3 carriers for comparable coverage.
  • Read the policy for exclusions and limits.
  • Keep an inventory of belongings for home/renters (photos or list).
